Argentina put 3 past Croatia to no reply on Tuesday 14 December and the day after, France stormed through Morocco’s rigid defence and won 2-0, booking them a second consecutive place at football’s highest table.
Who is the favourite to win the game?
The bookmakers have this tie down, as you might expect, as very close to call. Lionel Messi’s Argentina are +185 (24/13) while France are +180 (9/5). That is tight. The draw is placed at +215 (28/13).
Basically, nobody has any idea. Argentina have slowly bubbled and risen to their top level as the tournament has gone on, while France have shown their class on enough occasions to make it to final game. Messi against Mbappé; Europe against South America; present against future.
Semi-final losers Morocco and Croatia will play in the third-place playoff game the day before the final, and you can find all the information you need here.
Argentina vs France: prediction
Do I have to? Really? It’s Messi against Mbappé, I don’t want to jinx anything. It’s true that Argentina have perhaps struggled more in the tournament and taken longer to reach the high level they are finally at, but the squad harmony is at an all-time high and they have a Copa América win in their pocket. But France have 2018′s World Cup win in theirs. And they have looked spicy hot all tournament, despite the Morocco clash being the first clean sheet they have managed.
I will go for a draw after 120 minutes and endless penalties until every player and substitute scores and the managers have to take one each. Then Scaloni buries his and Argentina win. OK, maybe it doesn’t play out exactly like that, but it’s the only way my brain can compute how to separate these two football giants.
I predict an Argentina... win? Wait, do I?
