Bernardo Silva joins Mourinho’s list of Real Madrid targets
The midfielder goes from being rejected by the club’s directors and coaches to being among those wanted by the Portuguese coach.
He was initially offered to Real Madrid, but in recent weeks it was Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid that emerged as the main contenders for the signing of a player who has been a key figure in Manchester City’s recent history: Bernardo Silva. The proposal that reached Valdebebas arrived before José Mourinho had entered the picture as part of Real Madrid’s future plans.
Now, however, everything has changed. While the final decision has yet to be made, the situation could shift dramatically. Mourinho has Bernardo Silva on his shortlist, and although the Portuguese midfielder was previously ruled out by the club’s directors and coaching staff, the manager’s influence could reshape plans that had appeared to set up a straight battle between Barcelona and Atlético for his signature.
Bernardo Silva is available on the market. The Portuguese international has been exploring a move for some time, and his agent, Jorge Mendes, is evaluating the various offers that have arrived since it became clear that the midfielder would leave Manchester City after nine years at the club and with twenty major trophies added to his résumé.
Mendes is working primarily with clubs with whom he enjoys strong relationships, including Real Madrid, following the restoration of full cooperation between the parties. That connection could become even more significant if Mourinho takes charge of the Madrid dressing room from Monday.
Juventus were the first club to show serious interest, but Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid later became convinced they were leading the race for the midfielder. The reality, however, is that no final decision has been made. What once appeared to be a straightforward and swift transfer has become increasingly uncertain. Bernardo Silva and his representatives have decided to pause and assess all options, while Barcelona remain optimistic and continue to believe that the former City star’s future lies at Camp Nou.
At 31, Bernardo Silva remains in excellent physical condition. He played all 38 Premier League matches last season, underlining his ability to continue performing at the highest level for several more years. Across all competitions, he made 53 appearances, scoring three goals and providing five assists.
