After winning the Supporters’ Shield FC Cincinnati are looking to make history and win the MLS Cup for the first time in franchise history.

Brandon Vazquez is enjoying another productive season with Cincinnati, linking up well with MVP candidate Luciano Acosta as the team romped to a first-placed finish in the East. The team’s focus now turns to the playoffs and a potential MLS Cup run.

In a conversation with former USMNT forward Taylor Twellman the 24-year-old was asked about his future goals.

“I think that would be the perfect-case scenario for me,” Vazquez told Twellman. “Bring Cincinnati a championship and then make the jump overseas. It [would] be amazing.”

“This career is short and one of my goals has been to go to Europe,” Vazquez added.

Vazquez wants European move to boost USMNT hopes

The California-born forward made his debut for USMNT earlier this year, having also been eligible to play for Mexico. He has scored four times in his eight international appearances to date, but has mainly featured against weaker opposition.

Vazquez’s goals have mostly come against Concacaf opposition, with one in a friendly match against Serbia. In the recent game against Germany Greg Berhalter started with Folarin Balogun as the central striker, and can also call upon the likes of Ricardo Pepi and Timothy Weah to fill that role. All three young forwards are currently playing in Europe.

If Vazquez is going to tie down a place in the USMNT squad he will likely need to make a similar move across the Atlantic, something that he is only too aware of.

“I think if I want to make the 2026 World Cup roster, I think I have to be overseas competing in the best leagues in the world,” he said.

“I wanna push myself, I wanna keep growing as a player. And, obviously, Cincinnati wants to win a championship. I wanna help Cincinnati win a championship.”

Cincinnati close out their regular season campaign with a home fixture against Atlanta United on Saturday. After that, Pat Noonan’s side will look to make history in the playoffs.
