Out-of-favour Chivas Guadalajara winger Alexis Vega has reportedly turned down a move to MLS franchise San Jose Earthquakes.

Fox Sports journalist Rodrigo Camacho says the Earthquakes agreed a deal with Chivas, but were rebuffed by Vega, who would only be interested in moving to the US to join a bigger-name team.

Vega would only join Miami, Galaxy - Fox report

Speaking on the Fox Sports TV show La Última Palabra (‘The Last Word’), Camacho said: “[San Jose] approached Guadalajara and came to an agreement. The exact figures haven’t come to light, but a deal was put in place for Vega to move to MLS.

“But when San Jose Earthquakes approached Vega to discuss personal terms, that’s when Vega said no.”

Camacho added: “He’s only interested in going to MLS if a team like Inter Miami comes in for him, or if he can go to Los Angeles to play for LA Galaxy.”

Vega is currently training away from Chivas’ first-team group and was left out of the club’s two pre-season friendlies, as Fernando Gago’s men prepare for the Liga MX’s Clausura 2024 tournament.

Earthquakes’ Cowell set for Chivas

Although it appears Vega won’t be moving to San Jose, Chivas are close to sealing a deal to take USMNT winger Cade Cowell in the opposite direction.

The 12-time Mexican champions are expected to pay around $4 million for Cowell, 20.

When is Chivas’ first Clausura 2024 game?

Guadalajara, who will be seeking their first Liga MX title since the Clausura 2017 tournament, kick off their Clausura 2024 campaign at home to Santos Laguna on Saturday 13 January.

The match at Estadio Akron is scheduled to begin at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
