Cruz Azul heads into the ‘Clásico Joven’ deep in crisis after five games without a win
Nicolás Larcamón’s team is without a win in five of its last official matches - a worrying run of form just as the playoffs are approaching.

Cruz Azul is navigating a turbulent moment - just as the Clausura 2026 heads toward its conclusion.
The club has now gone five straight official matches without a win, a slump that has set off alarms among fans and within the organization. Despite remaining near the top of the standings (they sit second, four point behind Chivas), the team’s recent performances have raised serious questions.

A costly blow on the international stage
The latest setback came in Concacaf Champions Cup, where LAFC handed Cruz Azul a decisive 3–0 defeat in the quarterfinals. The loss leaves the reigning regional champions in a difficult position heading into the second leg. Defensive lapses and a lack of finishing touch were on full display, exposing issues that have been building over several weeks.

Liga MX results offer little comfort
Domestic play hasn’t provided relief either. Cruz Azul is coming off a 2–1 home loss to Pachuca, a match in which the team showed flashes of quality but once again failed to maintain consistency. That defeat followed a string of three draws — 2–2 vs. Pumas, 1–1 vs. Monterrey, and 1–1 vs. Mazatlán — results that highlight the team’s struggle to close out games.
Even so, Cruz Azul remains second in the Liga MX table with 27 points, a testament to the strong form it displayed earlier in the season. But with the regular season winding down, pressure is mounting. Every point from here on out will be crucial in securing a favorable position for the playoffs.

Cruz Azul's Clausura 2026 run-in
- 11 April: América vs Cruz Azul
- 14 April: Cruz Azul vs Tijuana
- 21 April: Querétaro vs Cruz Azul
- 26 April: Cruz Azul vs Necaxa
A season‑defining test arrives this weekend
The club’s next match may be the perfect chance to flip the script. On Saturday, April 11, Cruz Azul faces Club América in the “Clásico Joven” at Estadio Ciudad de México — one of the most anticipated fixtures on the calendar and a matchup that often shapes the narrative for both teams.
Beyond the standings, this rivalry clash is a test of character. Cruz Azul needs a statement performance to regain confidence and reconnect with its early‑season identity. Fans are expecting an immediate response, and there’s no bigger stage to deliver one than against their fiercest rival.
