Following their elimination from the Clausura 2023 tournament, Cruz Azul are reportedly targeting Atlas’ Brian Lozano as they prepare for the Apertura 2023.

The nine-time Liga MX champions lost to Atlas in the preliminary round of the playoffs on Saturday, courtesy of a first-half goal scored by Lozano.

Offer made as Cruz Azul boss eyes Lozano addition

According to Mexican media outlet Periódico AM, Cruz Azul have tabled an offer for the 29-year-old, in a move expressly requested by head coach Ricardo Ferretti. In its report, AM did not specify exactly how much La Máquina have bid for the Uruguayan winger, who has eight international caps.

No response yet from Atlas

Atlas are yet to respond to Cruz Azul’s offer, AM adds, as their full focus is on the Clausura 2023 playoffs. The Guadalajara club are due to take on city rivals Chivas in the playoff quarter-finals on Thursday.

Lozano, who joined Atlas in December, has also played for Mexican teams Club América and Santos Laguna. He was a CONCACAF Champions League winner with América in 2016, before helping Santos to the Clausura 2018 title.

He has scored seven goals in 20 appearances for Atlas, including six in 16 in the Clausura 2023.
