Kylian Mbappé's will make his debut for Real Madrid in Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta in Warsaw, Poland, with the France captain seemingly set to start despite having only started preseason training last week. But given the hype surrounding the former Paris Saint-Germain star, there will already be certain amount of expectation for him to score his first goal for Carlo Ancelotti’s team.
And if Mbappé does indeed hit the ground running with Los Blancos, it will be the first time his has netted on his debut for any of the teams he has represented at senior level.
Mbappé's breakthrough with Monaco in France
The attacker made his big breakthrough at Monaco in the 2015/16 season, with his first appearance for the principality club coming in a Ligue 1 fixture against Caen on December 2, 2015, just before he turned 17. He came on as a substitute for two minutes at the end of the game, and unsurprisingly failed to score.
Mbappé netted his first senior goal in a 3-1 home victory over Troyes on February 20, 2016, which was his fifth league appearance for Monaco and eighth in all competitions.
Mbappé shines at PSG after false start
By the time the forward joined Paris Saint-Germain, initially on loan, in the summer of 2017, he was already touted as the next big thing. He made his PSG debut in a 3-2 win over Toulouse on August 4, 2017, but didn’t find the net.
He then sat out the next three games because of a minor injury but opened his account for the Parisians in his second appearance, a 5-1 thrashing away to Metz on September 8, 2017.
Teenage Mbappé fast off the mark with France
At international level, Mbappé received his first call-up to the French senior team in March 2017, three months after his 18th birthday.
His national team debut came against Luxembourg in a 2018 World Cup qualifier on March 25, 2017, with his first goal for France coming in his third cap five months later against the Netherlands on August 31, 2017.
