El Clásico Nacional: Possible XI’s for América and Chivas for Clausura 2023 semi-final
A solitary goal from Alejandro Zendejas at the Estadio Akron has the ‘Aguilas’ in pole position ahead of Sunday’s return leg.
Following a shock 0-1 win at the Estadio BBVA against Monterrey, Tigres UANL are the first finalists of the 2023 Liga MX Clausura competition as they wait for the action at the Azteca to conclude on Sunday night to discover their opponents in next week’s two legged final.
But before we reach that stage, there is the small matter of a semi-final second leg to resolve as Club América face Chivas with the side from the capital holding a one goal lead from the first leg despite the men from Guadalajara enjoying the best of clear cut scoring chances in a tense first leg at the Estadio Akron.
Two clear goals
Given both teams final standings in the regular season, América hold a double advantage with a solitary Alejandro Zendejas goal giving Fernando Ortiz’s side an overall lead in the tie. ‘Ame’ fans are also aware that given their higher regular season standing (finishing second) with Chivas finishing third, the ‘azulcreamas’ will advance to the final even with a one goal defeat which piles added pressure on Veljko Paunovic’s men to win at the Azteca by two clear goals.
America are expected to be able to call upon Spaniard Alvaro Fidalgo who was absent from the game midweek due to a muscular issue with the Chivas Serbian coach calling up 27 players for the game in Mexico City with no injury concerns for his side.
