How many Champions League semi-finals has Barcelona played in, and how many did they reach the final?
The Blaugrana team is looking to be among the top four in Europe once again, but need to get past their Spanish rivals.

When Hansi Flick arrived at FC Barcelona in the summer of 2024, the mission was clear: reverse years of decline and restore the club’s standing as one of the most feared sides in world soccer. Under Ronald Koeman and Xavi Hernández, the team had collected a LaLiga title, a Copa del Rey, and a Spanish Super Cup, yet Europe had become a recurring source of frustration.
What Flick has done is reestablish Barcelona among the true contenders, turning a side that once struggled on the continental stage into one capable of challenging for every major trophy again. The German coach has already lifted two Spanish Super Cups, one Copa del Rey, and another league title, and now sits just five games away from winning the Champions League – a feat he achieved last season and is now aiming to repeat.
How many times has Barcelona reached the semifinals?
To get there, Barcelona must first overcome Atlético Madrid in the quarterfinals, beginning Wednesday, April 8. If they advance, it would mark the 19th time in club history that they have reached the semifinals of the Champions League – or the former European Cup – reinforcing their status as one of the game’s historic powers.
Their first appearance at this stage came in the 1959–60 season, when they were eliminated by Real Madrid. A year later, Barcelona reached their first final, though the club had to wait until 1992 to finally lift the trophy, by which point they had already played four semifinals.
Across their 18 semifinal appearances, Barcelona have been eliminated 10 times and reached the final eight times, going on to win five of those: 1991–92, 2005–06, 2008–09, 2010–11, and 2014–15.
