Miami head coach Javier Mascherano elected to rotate heavily for last weekend’s MLS game against Charlotte FC. He made ten changes to the team that started the first leg in Nashville, leaving Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul out of the squad entirely.

Similarly, Nashville’s attacking trident of Cristian Espinoza, Sam Surridge and Hany Mukhtar all started as substitutes for the weekend’s game against Columbus Crew. All three came off the bench and Espinoza and Mukhtar combined to score a late winner in Columbus.
