Update:

Following an incredible three consecutive promotions which have taken Wrexham from the fifth tier National League to the second tier EFL Championship in three seasons, the team from North Wales are still very much alive in their bid to secure a spot in the promotion play-off battle with a place in the Premier League on the line.

No team in English football history has ever achieved four consecutive promotions to reach the Premier League. Wrexham are currently attempting to become the first to do so with the club now boasting global support since Hollywood stars Rob Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney took control at the struggling side back in 2021.

Two games to go...

Going into Tuesday’s matchday 44 game away to Oxford, Phil Parkinson’s side knew they had no hope of making an automatic promotion with just the top two teams getting promoted automatically, as their chance of playing in the top flight next season boils down to securing a top six berth and a place in the playoffs.

Parkinson’s side sat in seventh place in the table and their destiny was no longer in their own hands with Hull City sitting in the final playoff spot (sixth position).

However, Tuesday’s results saw the Red Dragons get the job done with a 0-1 win away to Oxford United as Hull could only manage a 2-2 draw away to Leicester City. As a consequence Wrexham now leapfrog Hull City and sit in in 6th place. This position at the end of the season would enter them into a four-team knockout tournament (5th vs 6th and 3rd vs 4th) with the final held at Wembley.

Despite both teams being currently tied on 70 points, Wrexham have a better goal difference (+6 vs +4) which means that Rob Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney’s side have wrestled back the initiative from the Tigers and are now masters of their own destiny with two wins from their final two league games enough to guarantee a place in the play-offs.

The Red Dragons travel to champions Coventry City on April 26 and face Middlesbrough at home a week later. Hull face Charlton Athletic (A) and wrap up their campaign at home to Norwich City.
