Update:

What next for Inter Miami? Two and a half years after the arrival of Lionel Messi, the Herons finally clinched MLS Cup with a 3-1 victory over Western Conference winners Vancouver Whitecaps.

That first championship is a major milestone for the ambitious young club. The signing of Messi has been heralded as a landmark moment for soccer in the United States and the team’s hierarchy will be eager to maximize the benefits of the Argentine’s presence.

Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has been a visible figure throughout the team’s growth, appearing alongside fellow co-owner David Beckham on the field following the MLS Cup triumph. Mas has promised fans that there is more to come in 2026 and issued a bold claim on social media this week.

Mas wrote: "The best version of your Inter Miami is yet to come… we cannot and will not stay static.. we promise our fans and “La familia” that we will reload in 26’ as our primary goal is to win the ConcaChampions and qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup."

The Concacaf Champions Cup brings together the best teams in North and Central America. In recent years the competition has been dominated by Liga MX, with 19 of the last 20 tournaments being won by Mexican sides. The only exception to that run of Mexican dominance is the 2022 tournament won by the Seattle Sounders.

In 2025 Inter Miami reached the semi-final of the Concacaf competition, where they met the Whitecaps in a two-legged fixtures. The Herons went into the game as favorites but were comfortably beaten by an aggregate scoreline of 5-1.

Those memories will be front and center for Miami as they chase continental glory in 2026. The team has already announced the signing of former Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilón and more reinforcement as expected in what could be a busy offseason for Inter Miami.
