Inter Miami supporters break their silence after protest against Messi and players
Following protests by Inter Miami’s supporters last Saturday at NU Stadium against Messi, Suárez, De Paul and company, the La Familia fan group has spoken out.

Inter Miami finally won at their new home, the NU Stadium, but the match against Portland Timbers was marked by an unusual event as the official supporters’ group decided to protest in silence for most of the match where even Messi himself was seen to be annoyed, making gestures to the fans.

Following their 2-0 victory against the Timbers, which broke a four-game winless streak at their new stadium, thanks to goals from Lionel Messi and Germán Berterame, the Herons remain in second place in the Eastern Conference with 28 points after 14 matches, having a record of eight wins, four draws and only two losses; however, their fans were annoyed with the side.

Fans break silence

“For 85 minutes we remained silent. No drums, no flags, no banners, no speeches. Not because we have stopped supporting this club, but because some of us give everything for this club and feel invisible to those who represent us on the field,” said ‘La Familia’, Inter Miami’s supporters group, who decided to break their silence after what happened last weekend at NU Stadium.
The home fans are annoyed that in previous matches, players walked straight off the pitch and into the tunnel after the first four home games at the new stadium without walking over to applaud or acknowledge the supporters’ section. The fans felt treated like an afterthought or free background entertainment for a corporate venue.

Inter Miami are current MLS champions and are currently in contention for the top spot in the East. The team have also been able to break the winless run hoodoo at the new NU Stadium, having even lost a three-goal lead against Orlando City in the Clásico del Sol, but, with the help of an on-fire Messi, that streak was broken.
