Inter Miami’s Sergio Busquets is already one of MLS’ most dangerous midfielders

MLS continues its season without the team that, were they taking part, could be considered the favourite to win: Inter Miami. Despite the disastrous end to the season which saw a Messi-less Herons team fall away from the playoff line, the side managed to show their talent with the new-look team.

One player in particular who stood out from the rest - whose name is not Lionel Messi - was Sergio Busquets. Signed at the start of the summer after leaving Barcelona following the end of his contract, the Spaniard slotted into Tata Martino’s side and added to the leap in quality that was previously unimaginable.

In just 11 games, Sergio Busquets has already left his mark on the league and has routinely showed himself to be a player more than capable of making the difference in North American soccer, and one who will leave a huge mark on the midfielders of the future.

Since his arrival, Martino has considered ‘Busi’ an indispensable piece of the Inter Miami puzzle, using him in his ideal role as a deep-lying creator. The Catalan, from this position, has turned into the undisputed metronome of the side, dancing to Messi’s music at the goal-end of the pitch.

Busquets managed the most interceptions and recoveries in the team (100th percentile), and his standout game arguably came against LAFC. Also, the eagle-eye of the midfielder has also turned him into one of the top passers in the league, putting him in the top percentile in the league for successful progressive passes.

Busquets and Benjamín strike up a super partnership

In a season to remember with an end to forget, the directors of Inter Miami must start to work on the upcoming campaign (especially now the China tour is off) and names have already been linked with The Herons. While Sergi Roberto is the latest player from Europe to be placed in Miami by the media, MLS can relax knowing that they can enjoy the delights of Busquets for the foreseeable future.

The midfielder has become the main tutor for a Benjamín Cremaschi who has had a breakout season and is constantly evolving. The Argentine-American is one of the jewels of the Inter Miami academy, and is one of the players who has played alongside Busquets the most. The idea of the franchise has been for him to spend time on the pitch with the European legend to push him on a guide him in his growth, above all for when Beckham’s ‘galácticos’ decide to move on.
