Kieran Trippier sent to Tottenham’s ‘fat club’ by Mauricio Pochettino
After joining Spurs from Burnley in the summer of 2015, the current England international went on a holiday to Mexico.
Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier has revealed he was sent to Tottenham’s ‘fat club’ by Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino.
After joining Spurs from Burnley in the summer of 2015, the current England international went on a holiday to Mexico. However, when Tripper returned to Spurs training for pre-season, he was in for a surprise.
Pochettino’s plan for Trippier
Pochettino, who was in charge of Spurs at the time, wasn’t impressed with his new signings weight and Trippier was sent into an altitude chamber as the club’s medical staff worked on his fitness for the upcoming campaign.
“I went on holiday to Cancun, thought I came back in good nick, and next minute I’m in the fat club. I was in the altitude chamber,” Tripper told The High Performance Podcast.
Pochettino’s work didn’t go unnoticed at Spurs, where he guided the club to the 2019 Champions League final. The Argentine tactician is currently out of work and has been linked with the Chelsea job.
Trippier later left Spurs to join Atlético Madrid, where he won a LaLiga title with the Spanish club before returning to the Premier League to sign for Newcastle.
