LA Galaxy fans boycott the team ahead of the game against LAFC
Fans of the most decorated team in MLS demand the departure of president Chris Klein due to the lack of results in recent years.
Los Angeles Galaxy suffered another 2-1 loss on Saturday against the Seattle Sounders at Dignity Health Sports Park. Results haven’t matched expectations in Major League Soccer this season, and fans have had enough of the poor results ever since president Chris Klein took charge in 2013.
Fans boycott LA Galaxy
The Galaxy have played two games at home and the five fan groups have not shown up to support the team. Members of the LA Riot Squad, Angel City Brigade, Galaxy Outlawz, Galaxians and Ghost Ultras Galaxy rallied outside the stadium to protest and demand the departure of Chris Klein. Despite the fact that his contract ends this year, his exit could take place much sooner due to the pressure of the ultras on top of the already bad results.
“The stadium is dead,” said commentator Tayler Twellman during the game at Dignity Health Sports Park. “It feels like a preseason game here,” he added, due to the lack of support throughout.
Will LA Galaxy fans return to the stadium against LAFC?
It is the second consecutive game at home that the support of the team has been absent and the atmosphere has struggled to make an impact. The dreaded silence once again dominated the entire game against the Seattle Sounders, and what worries the team the most is that the next home game is against LAFC on April 16. If Chris Klein continues in his role, the home fans at Dignity Health Sports Park would be LAFC supporters in the first El Tráfico of the season.
“The problem we have is that the board does not see that there is an issue and that is where the division is, they do not understand the fundamentals of the fans, they have no idea what matters to us. If we were winning, we would be proud,” Andrew Alesana told the LA Times en Español in the first game of the 2023 season against Vancouver.
