This weekend soccer takes centre stage in the city of Los Angeles. Despite being one of the newest derby games in US sport, ‘El Trafico’ as the matchup has been dubbed, has become a game that evokes high levels of passion from Galaxy and LAFC fans respectively with no love lost between supporters of the blue and white and black and gold.

This season’s game sees both sides from the City of Angels enjoy solid starts to the 2022 MLS campaign with LAFC yet to record a loss as Steve Cherundolo’s men sit on top of the Western Conference with the Galaxy sitting third with three wins and two defeats in their opening five games.

LA history

With LAFC only emerging as a new MLS team in 2018, meetings between both sides have been fierce but few and far between with Saturday’s game set to be the twelfth MLS league meeting with the drama of the first ever match-up between the teams still fresh in fans’ minds when Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a dramatic injury time winner to give the Galaxy a 4-3 win in an incident packed inaugural derby.

When it come to local ‘bragging rights’, Galaxy fans hold the upper hand with their side having won five of the eleven meetings in MLS. Five games have ended in a draw with the ‘black and gold’ only managing one derby win in the league.
