LAFC boss Cherundolo: “There is US-Mexico rivalry at national level but not at club level”

Los Angeles Fútbol Club (LAFC) are on the eve of advancing to the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions League for the second time in their short history. The team led by Carlos Vela defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0 in the first leg last week and this Tuesday they will receive the Canadian side at the BMO Stadium to seal their passage.

In the event of the ‘Black & Gold’ advancing, the LA side would face the winner of the tie between FC Atlas (Liga MX) and Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer (MLS). Faced with the possibility of facing the side from Guadalajara, LAFC coach Steve Cherundolo was asked about the rivalry between Liga MX and MLS.

There is no rivalry for Steve Cherundolo

“I'm not sure there's much history between the two leagues. There have been many clashes, but it is too early to call it a rivalry between teams from both leagues,” said Steve Cherundolo when asked about the possibility of facing a Mexican team in the next round.

“There is at the national team level, but not at the club level. I’m not sure there’s a lot of information or experiences that can be talked about. But it’s a very interesting clash of styles and it’s always good matches. We would love to play against a Mexican team in the Concacaf Champions League if we advance to the next round”, concluded Cherundolo.
