The league phase of the 2025 Leagues Cup is now into its third and final matchday, and just four of the 18 Liga MX teams have punched their ticket to the quarterfinals. While most spots are nearly locked in, two teams are still in the hunt - and a win could shake up the entire bracket.

Toluca and Pachuca already through, Tigres and Puebla still waiting

Toluca and Pachuca sit atop the standings, having secured first and second place respectively. Their spots in the next round are guaranteed. But Tigres and Puebla, currently in third and fourth place with six points each, are still vulnerable. Their fate depends on how Pumas and FC Juárez perform in their final league-phase matches.

Pumas and Juárez control their own destiny

With five points apiece, Pumas and Juárez are just one point behind Tigres and Puebla. A win in their final league-phase match would catapult them into the quarterfinals, knocking Tigres and Puebla out of contention.

For Pumas, a draw won’t be enough due to their inferior goal differential - they must beat Inter Miami to advance. Juárez, on the other hand, could move on with a draw thanks to a better goal differential than Puebla. Still, both teams would do well to secure a win and avoid any complications. The path is clear - t’s all in their hands.

Necaxa and Tijuana still alive, but face tough odds

Necaxa and Tijuana still have a mathematical chance of qualifying, but their goal differentials make things tricky. Necaxa sits on four points with a +2 goal differential. A win would take them to seven points and potentially bump Puebla out of the top four. However, a draw would eliminate them. For Necaxa to advance smoothly, they need a win - and hope that both Pumas and Juárez either draw or lose.

Tijuana’s situation is even more complicated. With just three points and a -2 goal differential, they need a dominant win - by at least three goals - to have any chance of reaching the quarterfinals. It’s a long shot, but not impossible.
