Manchester City - Aston Villa: times, TV and how to watch online
All the info you need on how and where to watch the Premier League match between Manchester City and Aston Villa at the Etihad on Sunday.
Manchester City head into the final round of Premier League fixtures for the 2021-22 season a point ahead of Liverpool and with the destination of the title firmly in their own hands. Aston Villa are the visitors on Sunday and Steven Gerrard would undoubtedly love the opportunity to do his lifelong club a favour by beating City, but Liverpool also have to ensure they see off Wolves at Anfield to claim the title if Villa become just the third side to get the better of Pep Guardiola’s men this season. There are multiple scenarios in the case of a City or Liverpool draw or defeat, but the bottom line for Guardiola is win the game, win the title for a fourth time in five seasons.

The numbers do not favour Villa – or Liverpool – though. Gerrard’s side have not beaten City away from home since 2007 and last beat Sunday opponents in 2013, at Villa Park. The hosts have not been beaten at all on the final day of the season since the same year, when Norwich secured the three points to round off the 2021-13 season. The return to fitness of Danny Ings and Philippe Coutinho is timely for Villa, who have no reason not to go all-out at the Etihad with a 14th-placed finish assured and the potential to jump a few more with only one point separating Gerrard’s side from 11th.
Guardiola has been handed a similar boost at the back though with John Stones and Kyle Walker back in contention after both trained this week, and the City boss has almost a full squad at his disposal and will be unlikely to take any chances. That is likely to mean a front three of Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus with Kevin de Bruyne, who is in electric form, pulling the strings from midfield. Recent history also suggests City will emerge victorious on Sunday after a draw with West Ham left the title race open until the final day: the last time Guardiola failed to engineer a win in consecutive league games was in December, 2020.
