Manchester City offer Rodri new contract with Real Madrid rumors strengthening
Real Madrid just ousted Bayern Munich from the Champions League and now they are rumored to be targeting one of their star midfielders in the summer.
Manchester City are in the midst of a title race in the Premier League and are turning all of their attention to the remaining eight matches of the season. While players return from international break knowing the short term objective, those in the board at the Etihad are looking long term.
Rodri ready to make Madrid switch?
Rodri returned from international duty with the Spanish national team and according to Fabrizio Romano, was offered a new contract by the Citizens. Rodri, who has been in Manchester since 2019, grew up in Atletico de Madrid’s academy and played there for a season before moving to the Premier League giants.
Real Madrid are rumored to be interested in bringing the Spaniard home this summer, and it appears that Rodri would not object to joining the cross city rivals of his former club. Talking to Onda Cero Rodri said, “There are more players who have taken that path. Not directly, but over time. You can’t turn down the best clubs in the world.”

Real Madrid are interested in Rodri; decision up to the player, family involved too.
If Rodri rejects new deal, City would still ask for a big fee this summer; or leave on a free in 2027.

There have been loads of players that have gone from Atletico de Madrid to Real Madrid and vice versa over the years. Currently Marcos Llorente is playing for Atletico de Madrid after growing up in the Real Madrid academy. Thibaut Courtois lost a Champions League final to Real Madrid with Atletico Madrid in 2014. Alvaro Morata wore both shirts throughout the course of his professional career, and even Real Madrid legend, Raul, spent two years with the Atletico academy.
Final stretch for Rodri at Etihad?
Rodri has a little over a year left on his contract, and if he were to decline the new offer, that would leave the exit ramp out of Manchester wide open. Real Madrid are one of the many big clubs around Europe that will be lining up looking to tempt the midfielder this summer.

Real Madrid just knocked City out of the Round of 16 of the Champions League, and now they could be looking to take the former Ballon d’Or winner from 2024. First, Pep’s side have to worry about turning around a nine point deficit in the Premier League and then cross their fingers that the Spaniard will stick around for a few more years.
