Martinelli signs new long-term deal with Arsenal

Gabriel Martinelli made his feelings clear when asked about renewing his contract some time ago: “I just need to pick up a pen and sign”. Today, the Brazilian pledged his future to Arsenal by signing a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2027.

“Gabriel Martinelli has signed a new contract with the club, committing his long-term future with us. The 21-year-old, now into his fourth season in north London, has already made 111 first-team appearances in all competitions during his action-packed Arsenal career,” a club statement read. The left winger’s contract with the London team was due to expire in June 2024, so tying him down to a new deal was one of the club’s priorities in recent months. Finally, the player committed by adding three years onto his previous contract.

I feel amazing, I’m really happy in getting the new contract,” he said. “I want to do my best for the team and for the fans as well, to give back to them and make them proud,” the player told the club’s media department. “I’ve said it many times, I love everything about Arsenal. I love the city, I love my team mates, I love the fans, I love the club and I’m going to try my best for this football club.”

Since Mikel Arteta’s arrival, Martinelli has counted on the manager’s full support. He joined the Gunners from Ituano in 2019 when he was still just 18 years old, and in within four seasons, he has become one of the pillars of Arsenal’s attack. After a 2020/2021 season in which he went largely unnoticed, playing just nine games as a starter, Tasmanian Devil’s development has been exponential during the past two campaigns. He ended the 2021/22 season with six goals and five assists in 36 games and is well on the way to improving on those figures in 2022/23 in which he is already on seven goals and three assists. He is the team’s fourth top scorer behind Eddie Nketiah (9), Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard (both on 8). And it is precisely with the English winger and the Norwegian playmaker he has managed to form a dream partnership trident in the Arsenal midfield.
