Messi lands another major honor as Inter Miami crowns its 2025 season stars

Messi’s 2025 campaign will be remembered as one of the defining chapters of his time in MLS. The Argentine closed out the year by lifting the MLS Cup, adding yet another trophy to an already overflowing résumé.

His level across every competition — MLS, the Concacaf Champions Cup, the Leagues Cup and the Club World Cup — was more than enough to earn him Major League Soccer’s MVP award for the second straight season.

And he wasn’t finished. Messi was involved in all three Inter Miami goals in the MLS Cup final, a performance that made him the clear choice for Final MVP. It looked like that might be the last individual accolade of his season, but the Herons had one more honor to hand out.

Just as they did last year, Inter Miami named Messi the club’s Most Valuable Player, recognizing a season in which he scored 29 goals and contributed 48 goal involvements overall. The club’s decision simply reaffirmed his dominance throughout the campaign.

Jordi Alba named Inter Miami’s Defensive Player of the Year

Another major award went to Jordi Alba, who capped his season — and his career — with an MLS Cup title. Alba was selected as Inter Miami’s Defensive Player of the Year after producing 23 assists and eight goals across 52 matches, an extraordinary return for a defender.
