Gabri Veiga is closer to joining Napoli than ever. In the last few hours, the Azzurri closed a definitive agreement with Celta, who will receive around €35 million, variables included, for the transfer of the Spanish midfielder. As AS announced a week ago, the sky-blues accepted a figure lower than the €40 million clause to avoid negotiations taking too long so that they will have time to invest at least part of the fee in buying a replacement.

The operation is well underway, and now all that remains is an agreement with the player. Napoli have not yet finalized the details of their proposal, although there is a lot of optimism coming from the the club. Veiga will be offered a salary which is affordable for the Italian club (around two million euros net) and, in addition, he will be able to take advantage of the tax advantages of the Crescita Decree, the Italian Beckham Law.

Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea had all been linked with Gabri Veiga during the current transfer window.

De Laurentiis has been working for months on incorporating a player with the perfect profile for his project. At 21 years old and with exceptional talent, Veiga has got everything to develop and grow as many other young players have already done at Napoli. The Italian champions bet heavily on him despite the continuity of Piotr Zielinski, who refused to leave for Saudi Arabia and is now negotiating a new contract. The Neapolitans would have received 35 million euros from his sale - which is just what Veiga will cost. But securing the Galician was a priority and did not depend on selling other members of the squad. And now, a deal is just one step away.
