Only one Liga MX team comes out on top of MLS rivals
The Coapa squad was the only Liga MX team to win their first leg match in the round of 16 against an MLS team.

This Thursday, after Tigres lost to FC Cincinnati in the Concacaf Champions Cup, the overall balance in games between Liga MX and Major League Soccer teams turned negative.
Tigres joined Toluca, which lost to San Diego FC, as the only Mexican teams to fall in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup, with Club América the only side to beat an MLS opponent in this round.
André Jardine’s team won 1-0 away to the Philadelphia Union last Wednesday, making it the only Mexican club with its series on track against a Major League Soccer rival.
Toluca lost 3-2 at Snapdragon Stadium, while Tigres was routed by Cincinnati at TQL Stadium. Both teams will have to come from behind in their series at home next week.

Cruz Azul is another Mexican team taking an advantage into the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup round of 16, but Nicolás Larcamón’s team won the first leg against Monterrey.
La Máquina would face the winner of the series between Alajuelense and LAFC in the quarterfinals. América, meanwhile, is waiting for the winner of the matchup between Inter Miami and Nashville.

If it completes the comeback, Toluca would face the winner between Mount Pleasant FA and the LA Galaxy in the quarterfinals. Tigres would play the winner of the series between the Seattle Sounders and the Vancouver Whitecaps.
The second legs will be played next week: Cruz Azul hosts Monterrey at Estadio Cuauhtémoc on Tuesday, March 17; América hosts the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, March 18, at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, and Toluca welcomes San Diego FC that same day at Nemesio Diez.
Tigres will close out the Mexican teams’ round-of-16 schedule next Thursday, March 18, against Cincinnati at El Volcán.
