TRANSFER MARKET
PSG accept Al Hilal bid for Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappé: how much is it and what is the current world record transfer?
The Saudi Pro League side have been granted permission to speak to the France captain, who could move for a record fee.
Kylian Mbappé to Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal: the (potential) transfer that none of us saw coming (but that maybe we should have). After leaving the France captain out of their pre-season trip to Japan, Paris Saint-Germain could be about to get their way following Mbappé's refusal to extend his contract at the club beyond the summer of 2024. “Sign a new deal or leave now” was the Ligue 1 champions’ ultimatum and Al Hilal have chanced their arm (unlike long-term admirers Real Madrid…so far).
Paris Saint-Germain involved in two biggest ever transfers
The Saudi side have been granted permission to speak to the player by their French counterparts after making a whopping €300 million (circa $332.4 million) offer, thought to be €100 million ($110.8 million) more than PSG’s asking price (who’s doing their bidding?). You might not be surprised to hear that would smash the current world record transfer, which saw the Parisians pay €222 million (around $246 million) to Barcelona for Neymar.
PSG are also in second spot in that particular list, with Mbappé's move to the French capital from Monaco in 2018 setting them back a cool €180 million ($199.4 million).
Will Real Madrid be forced to act after Al Hilal bid?
That being said, perhaps we shouldn’t get too far ahead of ourselves. Will the Mbappé camp return Al Hilal’s calls? What does the French superstar want at this stage of his career? It has been widely reported that the attacker is holding out for a move to Madrid, who are still hoping to obtain his services on a free transfer next summer.
Will Al Hilal - and even arch-rivals Barcelona - force them to dip their hands deep into their pockets instead? PSG have pushed things along significantly, now it’s up to Mbappé to decide.
