Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, left training in tears after suffering an injury ahead of the LaLiga opening game against Athletic Bilbao.
It has now been confirmed by Real Madrid that the goalkeeper has suffered a broken anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
The Belgian has reportedly injured his knee and there are fears that it may be a cruciate ligament issue which could lead to a significant time on the sidelines.
Miguel Ángel Díaz of COPE in Spain reported the news via Twitter, saying that he was injured in the morning session and immediately underwent medical tests to determine the extent of the injury.
How long will he be out for?
A torn ACL is an extremely complicated injury, and one that generally has a very long recovery time. Real Madrid have confirmed that the player will undergo surgery over the next few days, and his recovery period begins then.
A torn ACL can take anywhere from 6 months to a year to recover from.
