Robben’s new milestone away from football

Arjen Robben is still in going strong and at 39, the former Bayern Munich player was able to complete the Rotterdam marathon, finishing the course in less than 3 hours. The former Dutch international completed the tough 42km test this Sunday in 02:58:33, averaging 4′ per kilometer.

After crossing the finish line and looking very satisfied after managing to beat his own personal best by more than 10 minutes compared to the previous year, Robben was later seen posing with the winner of the Marathon Bashir Abdi after the expert runner completed the distance in 2 hours and 3 minutes.

Two years after his retirement

It was July 15, 2021 when Robben decided to say his last and final goodbye to football. At that time he played with Dutch top flight side Groningen. “Looking back at last season, I have to come to the honest conclusion that the number of minutes I had was disappointing. My body didn’t give me the good feeling and confidence I needed, so I decided to stop.”

It hadn’t been the player’s first goodbye as in 2019 he seemed to be ready to hand up the boots after ten years with Bayern Munich but a call from his boyhood club reversed the decision.

Despite retiring from the game, Robben is still in top shape and if anything, the former Dutch international now looks trimmer than his time in the game. Distance running, padel and even refereeing all form part of the former player’s current list of interests.
