Update:

Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds has messaged Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop to thank him for responding to injuring Wrexham striker Paul Mullin, according to the PA news agency.

Mullin was taken to hospital with a punctured lung after a collision with Bishop during the friendly between the sides at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper was heavily criticised by Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson in his post-match comments.

“It is a real blow for us, you can’t hide away from that. I thought it was a clumsy challenge from the goalkeeper and it should have been a straight red,” Parkinson said.

He added: “It was a dangerous challenge and Mulls is our talisman. I’m fuming with it, I have to be honest about that. It was a clumsy, reckless challenge in a pre-season game. I haven’t seen the goalie and he’s probably best steering clear of us for the time being because we’re not very happy.”

Reynolds reaches out

Reynolds missed the match in the US due to film commitments but has since contacted the young United goalkeeper for how he handled the situation with the League Two club’s player.

The famous actor thanked Bishop after he sent Mullin a message and wished him luck for the future.
