Sergio Canales set to miss the rest of the 2023 Apertura
The Spanish midfielder is suffering with a left thigh tendon problem with Rayados confirming that the former Betis player will require an operation.
Rayados continue to see their Apertura 2023 season hampered with injuries with the latest bad news for Fernando Ortíz relating to new signing Sergio Canales. The Spanish player looks set to miss the remainder of the Apertura 2023 due to an tendon injury in his left thigh. The player from Santander last played for Monterrey in the local derby, El Clásico Regio against Tigres and was forced off at half time.
The Liga MX club issued a brief statement on Thursday confirming that Canales will undergo surgery with the 32-year-old spending the past few days Los Angeles (California) where he was being evaluated by local doctors. It is estimated that the recovery time for the medical work would be between six and eight weeks which would see the high profile summer signing ruled out for the rest of the Liga MX 2023 Apertura.
Canales arrived at Rayados for the Apertura in the summer of 2023 and has played in five Liga MX games bagging three goals, with two of these coming from the spot. The central player also bagged two goals for Monterrey in the Leagues Cup with both coming from the spot.
