Tigres will be bringing in reinforcements ahead of the Apertura 2023 but at least the coach’s position isn’t a concern. Robert Dante Siboldi has signed a contract for an extra year with the club.

The Uruguayan will continue at the helm, after earning an extension for his role in the team’s Clausura 2023 title-winning triumph over Chivas. That underlined the club management’s idea even before the final, which was to keep the South American coach on for at least another season.

However, the eighth star on the royal coat of arms made Tigres president Mauricio Culebro and his directors reconsider and extend the coach’s contract even further - the new deal will end after the Clausura 2024. During the team’s celebrations at Akron stadium, Culebro confirmed that he was only waiting for the right moment to make the coach’s renewal official. A formal announcement is expected in the next few days.

The former Auriazul goalkeeper joined in April, taking on the post in Week 15 of the regular season after the 1-2 to Mazatlán. Even though the team was still competing in the Concachampions, his position was precarious. The team finished seventh and made it through the Repechage to achieve maximum glory in Liga MX.

For now, Siboldi’s first decision as Auriazul DT is to sign Jean Meneses from Toluca, an operation that is still being resolved. He must choose which foreign players must depart ahead of the next tournament with Nicolás López and Igor Lichnosvky looking the most likely the candidates.
