A 2-0 loss to Leicester last night shows just how Leeds are struggling to find form in the Premier League this season but Luis Sinisterra is one of the team’s bright points. The Colombian winger has responded well in his first months in the Premier League and already has the support of the fans, who, in the most recent game against Leicester questioned manager Jesse Marsch for substituting him. He has three goals and one assist to his name so far in English football.

The 23-year-old spoke with Voetbalzone and assured that he has felt very comfortable with the reception he has received from the team where he has already become on of the standout names. Sinisterra stated that he is fulfilling his dream of playing in the Premier League and that thanks to his form he has also been able to perform with the Colombia National Team; he scored three goals in two games during his last call up to the squad..

“Things are going well. The reception here in Leeds was very warm and manager Jesse Marsch immediately expressed his confidence in me. I quickly felt at home here. I have found my place both at Leeds and with the Colombian national team. I’ve gained more confidence, so I automatically started playing better”, said the attacker.

“I miss everyone at Feyenoord”

Luis Sinisterra also spoke about his time at Feyenoord and assured that he misses various aspects of the Dutch club. The winger confessed that he is still in contact with several of his teammates and is keeping an eye on the news of the team, with whom he managed 23 goals and 14 assists last season, the best output of his career so far.

“Do I miss Feyenoord? Yes. I only came to Leeds because it was a dream to play in the Premier League, but I miss everyone at Feyenoord. The fans are fantastic and also inside the club the people are great too. I am still in contact with some of the staff and former teammates; I still have contact with most of my former teammates through social media. I also watch almost every Feyenoord match here,” the player said.

“I’m still very good friends with Marcos [Senesi]. We still speak a lot. He’s obviously playing for Bournemouth now, so whenever we both have a day off and it fits the schedule, we meet up somewhere. We often meet up in London, for example. In the Netherlands we also had contact with Martínez, although Marcos spoke more with him because of course they are compatriots. I’ve also met him a couple of times.”

“The red card was unexpected for me”

Luis Sinisterra also chose to mention the red card he received in the match against Aston Villa. This was the first red card the Colombian winger had ever been given, coming in a moment that is still a topic of conversation in England. The footballer was shown a second yellow after preventing a free-kick from being taken; the move was highly questioned by the British press.

“That will not happen again. I’m not exactly sure what happened and it wasn’t something done out of frustration. It was an unconscious moment. But to be fair, both the first and second yellow cards were easy to give. In any case, the red card was unexpected for me. The opponent was wasting a lot of time, so I wanted to rush them a bit,” the player stated.

“I learned a lot with Robin van Persie”

Finally, the player assured that the best footballer he has played with so far has been Robin van Persie. The winger was present during the last part of the Dutchman’s career. However, on the field of play they only shared 46 minutes in two games played.

I always say that Robin van Persie was without a doubt the best player I played with at Feyenoord. I was on the team with him for about a year and a half. Although he was already at the back end of his career, he had so much quality. It was very nice to see him play. I have learned a lot from his touch and his movement without the ball: he is always in the right place”, he concluded.
