Pumas return home with the tie still wide open, but history offers a mixed warning before their title decider with Cruz Azul.

The worrying Pumas statistic that fans won’t want to read before Liga MX final 2nd leg
This Sunday brings the second leg of the Clausura 2026 final between Pumas and Cruz Azul, a game that will decide the new champion of Mexican soccer and the team that will take Toluca’s place as Liga MX titleholder.
The first leg, played at Ciudad de los Deportes, ended in a tight 0-0 draw, a result that leaves the tie completely open heading into the return game.
The university side boasts an important history in Liga MX, having won seven championships in 14 finals played. That means Pumas have lifted the trophy exactly half the times they have reached the final.
One of the most striking facts ahead of the final is that Pumas have drawn the first leg on seven previous occasions in a Liga MX final.
However, the balance is not entirely favorable for the university club. In four of those series, they ended up losing the second leg, while only three times did they manage to prevail and win the championship.
