Tyler Adams, USMNT captain and Premier League midfielder, continues to suffer from an injury sustained last season, while playing for Leeds United.

The 24-year-old made his debut for The Cherries in September 2023 but relapsed and suggestions even floated around that the player was to undergo surgery on a hamstring issue. Without Adams in the side, Bournemouth have struggled greatly to get their 23/24 Premier League campaign up and running, and they have just 3 points from 8 games, and sit in 19th in the current league standings, and having conceded the third-highest number of goals in the division.

Here is the latest update on his fitness:

Adams’ injury history

Adams’ first injury came in March 2023, when he was sent to see a specialist regarding a hamstring issue that kept him out of the Leeds United side as well the USMNT’s games against Grenada and El Salvador. It was revealed shortly after that the player would face an extended period on the sidelines after undergoing surgery in England.

The loss of the midfielder was a significant one for Leeds United, who were relegated at the end of the season with a trio off USMNT internationals in the side (Adams, Brenden Aaronson and Weston McKennie).

Following Leeds’ drop to the second division, Adams agitated heavily for a move away from the Yorkshire club, with CEO Angus Kinnear saying that Adams’ behaviour was undesirable and that he “didn’t want to join a Championship side” while also commenting that “I think there are ways you can handle your desire to play at the highest level. From a personal perspective, I don’t think either of those two players handled it particularly well (Adams and Luis Sinisterra, who also joined Bournemouth). You need to approach it through discussion and trying to get to mutual agreement… I don’t think it’s a way to behave towards a club that’s looked after you.”

Bournemouth boss says Adams ‘going to be out for some time, for sure’

A failed move to Chelsea saw Adams promptly sold to Bournemouth for a fee of £23million and made his debut from the bench against Stoke City in the Carabao Cup in September. However, the relapse on his injury came shortly after and the player was missing from the squad in the next game for his side, a 4-0 loss to Arsenal.

Bournemouth boss, Andoni Iraola, said that the player had suffered “a setback” and that Adams “is not feeling well. He has been out for a lot of time, so we have to reassess, to reset, to take the good decisions, thinking in everything. It is true that he is going to be out for some time, for sure. I think it’s the same area. I couldn’t tell you if it’s exactly the same point, but it’s true that it’s his hamstring that he is not feeling well.”

Recently, Adams commented on a social media post saying “in due time”. Obviously this does not give us any real information in terms of a timescale, but it is reassuring to know that the player’s recovery, at least from his point of view, is going to plan.

The USMNT play Ghana in a friendly on Tuesday October 17, with kick off at 8:30 p.m./ 5:30 p.m. PT, which you can follow live on AS USA.
