The Mexican football playoffs are becoming increasingly intense, and following the quarterfinals, the four teams that are still in contention for the title in the Apertura 2023 season are now known. After the first stage of the playoffs, América, Tigres, Pumas, and Atlético San Luis will be the teams vying for the championship.

Apertura 2023 semifinals await

The top-seeded team, América, secured a 4-2 aggregate victory over León, earning them a spot in the tournament’s Semifinals. The Eagles have proven to be the standout team of the season so far. On the other hand, Tigres had no trouble overcoming Puebla at home, catapulting themselves into the penultimate stage before the Grand Final.

Pumas achieved a convincing victory over Chivas at Ciudad Universitaria, securing a 3-1 aggregate score and earning a ticket to the next round. Meanwhile, Atlético San Luis caused an upset by eliminating one of the continent’s top squads, Monterrey.

Apertura 2023 semifinal line-up

América, the regular-season top seed, will face Atlético San Luis in the semifinal. Since the remaining teams include the lowest-seeded Atlético San Luis, they will have to play all second-leg matches as visitors, even if they advance to the final.

In the other semi, Tigres, now second in the standings after Monterrey’s elimination, will take on Pumas. The first leg will be hosted by Pumas, while the second leg will be contested in the Sultana del Norte.

When will the Apertura 2023 semifinals be played?

As has been a tradition for many years, the semifinal matches will take place on Wednesday 6 December and Thursday 7 December for the first legs, with the return legs scheduled for the following Saturday and Sunday (9/10 December). The exact times and dates will be confirmed later on Monday following the owners’ meeting in the Liga MX.
