The Euro 2024 group stage drew to a close on Wednesday (26 June), which means we now know the identities of the teams competing in the round of 16 in Germany. While the host nation, as well as Spain and Portugal, booked their places in the first knockout round with a game to spare, it was rather harder work for defending champions Italy, who needed a last-minute equaliser against Croatia on matchday three to ensure progression.

There was also a nervous wait for a number of other countries to see which four of the six third-placed teams made it through to the last 16.

Meanwhile, for the first time in their history, Slovenia and Georgia have made it beyond the group stage of a major international tournament.
