CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Who is Erik Lambrechts, the referee for the Barcelona-Young Boys Champions League matchday 2 game?
Both sides are looking to bounce back from defeats in their opening games as Barça face Young Boys for the first time.
Following opening round defeats at the hands of AS Monaco and Aston Villa respectively, both FC Barcelona and BSC Young Boys will be hoping to bounce back with a Champions League win on Tuesday night in the Catalan capital with the action getting underway at 3pm (ET).
Barcelona come into the game on the back of their first defeat of the 24-25 LaLiga campaign where they fell in Pamplona (4-2) on Saturday to end their previously impressive 100% winning start to the season.
Young Boys are struggling in the Swiss Super League with the current champions in second bottom place in the table having just recorded one win in their opening eight games with Tuesday’s meeting the first time the Catalan giants have faced the side from Bern.
Belgian referee for Montjuic clash
40-year-old Leuven native Erik Lambrechts has been selected by UEFA as the referee for the matchday 2 clash at the Estadio Olímpico Lluís Companys in the Catalan capital.
This will only be the second time the Belgian has overseen a Champions League tie having officiated the Young Boys-Manchester City group stage clash last season.
Despite his lack of experience on the Champions League stage, Lambrechts is widely considered as one of Belgium’s better referees and has been involved with many Europa and Conference League games in the past two years.
