Argentina unveil gender equality-inspired Qatar World Cup shirt

Adidas has officially presented Argentina’s away strips for the World Cup in Qatar. Albiceleste captain Leo Messi and other players modelled the shirts for the first time on Monday, which will be purple for the first time in the history of the national team. The choice of colour, Adidas said in a statement, was inspired by gender equality.

“A powerful message of gender equality”

Adidas describes the new shirt as “representing gender equality, its vibrant purple hues combine with fiery graphics inspired by the national flag’s Sun of May.”

“The new away shirt of the national side transmits a powerful message of gender equality, aligned with the values of diversity and inclusion that our brand promotes,” said Pablo Lamo, general manager of Adidas Argentina. “Through sport we have the opportunity to change people’s lives, and soccer is one of the ideal tools to transform reality.”

The shirt that Argentina’s players will wear at the World Cup is produced with recycled materials including 50% Parley Ocean Plastic and employs HEAT.RDY technology to keep players cool and dry on the pitch. Before the launch, professional and amateur footballers put the shirts to the test on the pitch.
