Why Mexican midfielder Rodolfo Pizarro held the key to Lionel Messi officially signing for Inter Miami
David Beckham’s Herons will be able to officially confirm the signing of the former Barcelona superstar before the Leagues Cup begins.
The coast is officially clear for Inter Miami to sign Lionel Messi after the MLS club revealed on Friday that Mexican midfielder Rodolfo Pizarro had agreed to terminate his contract with the Herons by mutual consent.
As reported by The Athletic, Pizarro’s departure was crucial in order for David Beckham’s team to be able to formalise Messi arrival, as they had to make room on the roster to be able to register Argentina’s World Cup-winning star.
Pizarro departure “not soccer related”
“We know what the situation is. There is the soccer side of things and then there is also the administrative side, which is what will ultimately decide his future. Him leaving is not something that is based on soccer”, said new Inter Miami head coach Gerardo ‘Tato’ Martino when asked about Pizarro’s future at the club.
Inter Miami to confirm Messi signing imminently
With Pizarro having officially left, the Herons can now press on and officially announce that they have signed Messi, which is expected to happen sooner rather than later, perhaps even in the next few hours.
As things stand, the ex-Paris Saint-Germain playmaker has still not signed his Inter Miami contract, with the last few i’s to be dotted and t’s to be crossed imminently, according to The Athletic’s Paul Tenorio.
