James Rodríguez remains in recovery and is set to miss Minnesota United’s match against LA Galaxy this weekend. After the midfielder suffered a bout of dehydration following Colombia’s friendly against France last week, medical staff for club and country continue to closely monitor his condition.

In the wake of Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to the French, the Colombian Soccer Federation released a statement on Thursday confirming that Rodríguez had been hospitalized.

“Severe dehydration”

“The day after the match against France, the player presented symptoms of severe dehydration that required hospitalization for the past 72 hours for preventative and recovery monitoring,” the communiqué read.

The statement added: “It is important to clarify that this situation is not related to musculoskeletal injuries nor is it linked to the development of his football activities.”

Rodríguez was discharged on Wednesday and has been recuperating at home since. Although the Colombian federation’s statement spoke of a “favourable evolution and a steady improvement”, U.S. media has reported that a Loons physician reviewed Rodriguez’s medical records and described them as “serious”.

Ahead of Minnesota’s matchup with the Galaxy, head coach Cameron Knowles addressed Rodríguez’s status during a press conference. “He’s day to day on the advice of our medical team,” Knowles said. “As he makes progress, we will integrate him as we can.”
