James Rodríguez’s debut in Mexican soccer was marked by ups and downs. The Colombian player oversaw a Club León team that dominated the regular season for several rounds and contributed directly, both with goals and assists. On the other hand, he couldn’t prevent the team’s elimination in the round of 16 against Cruz Azul and actually missed the first leg due to suspension.

After completing his participation in the Liga MX Clausura Tournament and considering that the CAS ratified his team’s exclusion from the Club World Cup, the possibility of his departure for the second half of 2025 arose. Pachuca, a team that shares owners with León, was one of his possible destinations.

Despite this, the Guanajuato club confirmed the permanence of its captain through a publication on its social networks: “James played his first tournament in Mexico, playing 17 matches, finding consistency and a leading role as our team leader. #AP25 awaits us, CAPTAIN! This is just the beginning!”

In his first season with León, the number ’10′ played 17 matches, starting 15 of them. He scored two goals, provided six assists, received three yellow cards, and was sent off once. He was also instrumental in his team’s sixth-place finish in the Liguilla.

The publication confirms Eduardo Berizzo’s statements during the press conference following the elimination against Cruz Azul. “What I can say right now is that James has a contract and will continue with León,” the coach stated at the time.
