Colombia starting lineup against Ghana: Néstor Lorenzo’s XI for 2026 World Cup round of 32
Colombia heads into the World Cup round of 32 full of confidence, but Ghana’s disciplined defensive approach promises to provide a stern test in Kansas City.

There is huge optimism surrounding Colombia as they prepare for a difficult round of 32 clash against Ghana. Carlos Queiroz’s side is expected to sit deep defensively and look to strike on the counterattack. Breaking down that defensive line will not be easy, but there is confidence within the Colombian camp that patience – much like it showed against Congo – will eventually pay off.
Several players have been in outstanding form and look certain to start against Ghana. In defense, Davinson Sánchez and Jhon Jáner Lucumí are expected to continue in central defense, while Daniel Muñoz is set to return to the starting lineup after beginning the Portugal match on the bench. The full-back will be hoping to make another impact going forward and score his third goal of the World Cup.
In midfield, Jefferson Lerma, Gustavo Puerta and Jhon Arias are all expected to keep their places after forming an impressive trio in front of the back line throughout the tournament. Further forward, James Rodríguez and Luis Díaz are certain starters, while the center forward position remains undecided.

Lorenzo still has two selection dilemmas
The Argentine coach still has a couple of decisions to make before naming his starting XI.
One concerns the left-back position, where Johan Mojica is competing with Déiver Machado. Machado impressed against Portugal, defending solidly while also providing plenty of support in attack. Even so, Lorenzo could decide to recall the former Atlético Nacional and Millonarios defender.
His other major dilemma is at center forward. None of Colombia’s strikers has managed to score or truly stand out so far. Jhon Córdoba was given the chance against Portugal but failed to make the most of it. The Krasnodar striker appears to have a slight edge over Luis Suárez because of his physical presence, which could prove important against Ghana’s powerful defense both in the air and on the ground.
Predicted Colombia XI
4-3-3: Camilo Vargas; Daniel Muñoz, Davinson Sánchez, Jhon Lucumí, Déiver Machado; Jefferson Lerma, Gustavo Puerta, Jhon Arias; James Rodríguez, Luis Díaz, Jhon Córdoba.
Head coach: Néstor Lorenzo.
Colombia’s World Cup round of 32 meeting with Ghana is scheduled for Friday, July 3, at 9:30 p.m. ET at Kansas City Stadium. A large Colombian contingent is expected to fill the stands.
