Atlético Madrid skipper Gabriel Fernández 'Gabi' was determined that Los Rojiblancos would be back competing among Europe’s elite for Champions League glory following his side’s penalty-shootout loss to neighbours Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Milan:

“The most important thing is being there, and I’m convinced that this team will be back to win the Champions League because we deserve it,” the Atleti captain said on the club’s website.

The midfielder also praised his team-mates and sent out a message to the club’s fans: “We have to be proud of this team. As of tomorrow, we’ll keep on working. This is the beautiful and cruel side of football,” he said.
