LEGANÉS - ATLÉTICO DE MADRID
Leganés' refurbished Butarque stadium ready for LaLiga bow
A new PA system, VIP suite, Mixed Zone, press room and an increased capacity are just some of the features Leganés have added to their stadium for their debut season in LaLiga.
Leganés' Butarque stadium was only inaugurated 18 years ago. They celebrated in February this year - on Saint Valentine's Day. Later tonight, it will host its first top flight game - and who better than city neighbours Atlético to lend a helping hand with the initiation.
Simeone's side will be playing at a venue which will be almost unrecognizable from the place they visited for a triangular round-robin summer tournament just over 12 months ago. The biggest change has been to the seating. Butarque has boosted its capacity from 8,138 to 10,958, using the space between the old stand and the pitch which means that the public can now be even closer to the action than before.
The makeover includes the seats themselves, which now feature the club name on the side and an inscription of the years 1928 (date when the club was founded) and 2016 (year when they gained promotion to the top division for the first time).
The home and visitors' changing rooms have also been refurbished and are now bigger and more stylish - the home team's changing room has personalized locker space and and huge HD flatscreen television. The press room has been reconditioned to meet LaLiga standards - there's a new access to the media area and eight new posts for radio broadcasters
Other changes includes a new stadium PA system, a remodelled VIP suite, a new Mixed Zone and parking area and Wifi has been installed. The local council has spent 2.5 million euros on the reburbishment work in addition to what Leganés have contributed from their own pockets.
