Real Madrid fans choose Morata ahead of Benzema for derby
With just a few days to go until the first Madrid derby of the season the fans have been asked for their view on who they'd like to see lead the line at the Calderón.
Fans want a BBC break up
The Real Madrid fans want a change at the head of their side’s attack for the local derby at the Calderón on Saturday. Álvaro Morata is the player they would like to start ahead of the Karim Benzema. AS.com ran a poll which allowed supporters select their preferred eleven and the Madrilenian received almost double the number of votes (7,155) than the Frenchman (3,722).
If he was indeed to start, following his appearances for Spain over the past few days, it would not be the first time Morata made the line up for the short trip to the stadium on the Manzanares. Four seasons ago, on April 27, 2013, the then-manager José Mourinho gave him the opportunity in the league. Madrid won 1-2 although the youngster was unable to convert past Courtois in the Atlético goal.
Bets on Casemiro return
Other interesting decisions by the fans included the preferred inclusion of Casemiro in the middle of the part. After being out so long with an injury 7,783 votes were betting on his fitness recovery to be complete. Also in the middle, Isco edged the poll ahead of Kovacic (6,956 votes to 6,660), the latter of whom is touch and go after a knock while on international duty.
Up top, there was no doubting the poularity of Gareth Bale who returns from Wales duty with no reported problems and with yet another confidence boosting goal in the first of their two games. With 12,078 votes he was well ahead of Cristiano (10,873) but it was clear that both were wanted to be the keys to unlocking Simeone’s defence.
The choices for the back line were in no doubt with Keylor Navas in between the posts and Carvajal, Ramos, Varane and Marcelo ahead of him – fitness permitting. It's worth noting that the Frenchman and Brazilian both commanded over 12,000 votes each. Danilo received 435 selections.
Modric will return to the eleven and is the most voted
What is in no doubt is the fans’ eagerness to see Croatian star Luka Modric dictate play as he has done so many times before. With 12,283 he recived the most support and could be key for Zidane’s side as they look to come away from one of their title rivals not only the three points but also a huge confidence boost.
