Real Madrid - Las Palmas

Gareth Bale sent off for Real Madrid against Las Palmas

As the second half kicked off, few followers of the game would have imagined that just a minute later the Welshman would be seeing red for some incredible petulance.

The red mist decended on St David's Day

Gareth Bale, the likeable Welshman, took just one minute into the second half to see red and put his team at a numerical disadvantage as they targeted three points to climb back to the top of the league.

What sparked the rage in the, appropriately tagged, dragon is still not clear but Madrid certainly came out of the dressing room fired up, pressing high up the pitch from the kick-off. But it was when the ball was picked up by Jonathan Viera that things went crazy. As the Las Palmas player moved away with the ball, Bale chased after him and took a swipe at his legs from behind. Some would say that in itself - no attempt was made at the ball - was enough for a red card but the referee, Borbalán, chose to pull out a yellow. But he didn't have to wait long to get the darker shade out as Viera, incensed at the earlier foul, fronted up to the pony-tailed forward who lashed out pushing him to the ground. Time to hit the showers.

There certainly appears to be league

The game continued but quickly things got worse for Madrid losing two further goals in the 55th and then 58th minute. Madrid incredibly fought back to claw a draw from the match but what effect this will have on the league we have to wait and see. After Barça's earlier win, though, one thing is for sure...with games like these, ¡Hay Liga!
