Nasri sees red after Vardy clash
Sevilla midfielder Samir Nasri clashes with Vardy as Leicester City won 2-0 to progress to the Quarter Finals of the Champions League
Samir Nasri received his marching orders from Italian referee Daniele Orsato as Leicester knocked Sevilla out of the Champions League. Goals from Wes Morgan and Marc Albrighton were sufficient to overturn a 2-1 deficit from the first leg in Andalusia.
Vardy outsmarts Nasri
The Frenchman, on loan from Manchester City, was involved in an off-the-ball incident with Jamie Vardy in the 74th minute. The initial cause of the disagreement was unclear, but the two players clashed heads, and were both booked. For Nasri, already on a yellow following a kick at Ndidi in the first half, it was the end of his involvement. The Sevilla midfielder, so influential in the first leg, should have known better than to move his head towards Vardy, who recoiled dramatically to ensure that the officials saw, and punished, the incident. After much finger-pointing in the direction of the England striker, Nasri eventually left the pitch.
Sampaoli off too
Nasri's dismissal was not the only one for Sevilla. Jorge Sampaoli, their manager, was sent to the stands nine minutes later. It appeared to be a harsh punishment for the perpetually-animated Argentine.
