Ronaldo: We go to Málaga wanting a win
Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Madrid beat Celta in Balaídos. He refused to be complacent about the LaLiga title race, which Los Blancos can wrap up in Málaga.Real Madrid v. Málaga live online
Cristiano Ronaldo spoke to the media after he scored two goals in Real Madrid’s 1-4 victory over Celta Vigo at Balaídos. The Portuguese was satisfied with the victory, and with his personal performance.
His first goal broke Jimmy Greaves' record as the top scorer in Europe's top five divisions.
Ronaldo: we go to Málaga to win
That result in Galicia, during which Iago Aspas was harshly sent off for an alleged dive, means that Madrid need just one point in the final match away to Málaga, to wrap up the LaLiga title.
Yet Ronaldo refused to show any sign of complacency:
“There is still one game to go. We know that we have to keep going right until the end, and team has been really good, we’ve played well, with confidence. We know that Málaga are strong at home, but we have to concentrate on ourselves, go there, and win.”
He was clear that even though a draw would see Zidane’s side across the line, Madrid want more.
“We’re going there for a win. This team always has that objective. We’re Real Madrid and we have to demonstrate that we’re better and that we want to be the champions.”
Champions League final can wait
Speaking of a possible double, he stated that “we’re thinking exclusively about Sunday. We have to win to be the champions. After, we have 15 days to prepare for the Champions League.”
Meanwhile, Ronaldo was full of praise for Zidane’s sparing use of him in recent weeks.
“I’ve done a good job with the help of the gaffer and my team-mates, because we have a great squad. I have saved myself a bit more in order to be fresh for this final phase.”
