FIFA appoints normalization committee for the Malian Football Federation

The committee will be in charge of organizing elections for a new Femafoot’s executive committee.

FIFA appoints normalization committee for the Malian Football Federation

FIFA has appointed a standardization committee for the Malian Football Association (Femafoot), announced the football’s world governing body on Wednesday. Earlier this year, Mali were banned from global football for six weeks due to government interference in Femafoot’s affairs. Back in March, Sports Minister Housseini Amion Guindo instigated FIFA’s suspension by disbanding Femafoot over alleged mismanagement of Malian football. Against FIFA’s Statutes, Housseini appointed a 19-member interim committee with a one-year mandate.

Normalization Committee

According to a statement by FIFA, the decision to appoint a normalization committee follows “the current deadlock affecting FEMAFOOT and comes after two missions to Bamako dispatched by FIFA and CAF.” The Committee will be in charge of managing the day-to-day affairs of Femafoot, reviewing its statutes, identifying legitimate delegates at its general assembly, and most important, organizing and supervising the elections of its new executive committee. Elections at Femafoot should take place no latter than 30 April 2018.

Femafoot against FIFA’s decision

Through a statement on its facebook page, Femafoot denounced FIFA’s decision to impose a normalization committee. “The Malian Football Federation through its general secretariat has received a letter from FIFA informing it of its desire to set up a standardization committee,' reads the statement. 'The Malian Federation of Football recalls that its Elective General Assembly was held in full compliance with the texts of the national association. As for the election itself, the quorum being reached with 39 out of 57 voters, it leaves no room for doubt. “In faith whereof, the Malian Federation of Football will consult its advice and reserves the right to seize the CAS in the days to come for the right to be said and defend the vote of its constituents. “The Malian Football Federation, which cultivates transparency, will regularly inform the sports public about the progress of this dossier”.
