REAL MADRID 2-2 BAYERN MUNICH

Bild slams penalty oversight: "How could three refs not see it?"

The rest of the German media preferred to portion the blame at Bayern's misgivings and did not mention the ref. Lewandowski was heavily criticized.

Bild

Most of this morning's publications in Germany focused on Bayern Munich's exit from the Champions League to Real Madrid. But Bild was particularly damning in their judgement that a penalty should have awarded to Bayern when Marcelo handled a Kimmich centre which was heading into the box. Bild point out that neither match official Cüneyt Çakır, nor the linesman or the assistant referee - all of whom were well placed to see the incident, flagged for a penalty. "How can three match officials not see it?" ran their headline.

Bad luck? Or a lack of quality?

For everyone else, it was an opportunity for Bayern to look back to see where they went wrong: Die Welt went with the player's own conclusion that a golden opportunity had been passed up: "Bayern players moaned, particularly about their own impotence"; Der Spiegel asked: "Where was Lewandowski?" while Kicker threw out the question to whether Bayern's elimination was down to luck on Madrid's part, bad luck on Bayern's part or just a lack of quality throughout the side".
